HUUUUGE SMASH BROS TRIBUTE ALBUM

Posted by Step - October 4th, 2014

I've been given the honour of partaking in Harmony of Heroes, a HUGE Smash Bros fan-arrangement album with 101 TRACKS. These span across franchises from three Super Smash Bros games, and there's everything from Mario to Zelda to Earthbound to Metal Gear to original Smash Bros music arrangements. There are real orchestras, choirs, genres from electronic to orchestral to jazz to metal to rap, and a whole lot of musicians involved (I'd say hundreds). It's been a year and a half in the making and you simply must check it out and download it.

Personally, I'm one of the assistant directors for the album. I also made three arrangements, which I've posted on my Newgrounds page. Here they are again because convenient:

Jungle Swing (Donkey Kong)

Tune of Tempests (Zelda)

This is Snake (Metal Gear)

So yeah, check all that stuff out and tell me what you think!

AWWW YEEAAH!!! It's so cool to be a part of this. Thanks for helping me out with your better-than-average piano samples, Step! Loving everything I've heard so far, and - of course - your contributions are brilliant. Huzzah!

Hey, I barely did anything. Just grabbed the MIDI and adapted it for my piano sample. It was my pleasure to contribute to your track though. Any time you need something like that done again, I'm your man!

And yeah, agreed. It feels great being part of this project.

I love your ZELDA PIECE

and again thanks for inviting me to this project

Thanks for being part of it :3.

Oooh I'm going to go check it out! :D

Woo ^_^.

The whole stream yesterday was amazing, thanks for joining in and for your incredible contribution! Downloading the album as we speak

I had a lot of fun in that stream. The exclamation mark and question mark spam was glorious haha.

The album is truly a masterpiece. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

YES! I've been waiting for this :D
Everything I've heard so far sounds ridiculously amazing! o.O

Amen! So glad it's finally released. I'm happy you're enjoying it!

All my favorite artists are releasing pieces at the same time! It's like Christmas!

I'm just going on a favouriting spree and favouriting everything Harmony of Heroes-related I can find LOL.

Crapping bricks can't be healthy. You might want to get that checked out. xP
In any case I kind of wish I could've partaken in this. xD
Oh wells!

Yeah it's a real shame you weren't involved! There are lots of other musicians who I wish had taken part, and now with the NGADM going I've discovered even more talented musicians who could've done a great job in Harmony of Heroes, but ah well, what's done is done!

Psssst do a Harmony of Villains! Or perhaps it should be called Voices of Villains... or Aria of Archenemies? xD

BALLAD OF BAD GUYS.

I've never actually thought of that. An album arranging themes of video game villains. That's a cool idea.

DOOO EEEEEEEET!!!! :P I get first dibs. :3

But of course :3.

It feels like stealing... getting all this good music for free. Wat have I done?

u hav d rite 2 remane silent. anythin u say can & will b used agenst u.

This is great news! Congrats! I'm excited for you. ^_^ DK, Zelda, and Metal Gear Solid? Sweet. I love those games. I'll be sure to have a listen to your mixes soon.

*Double takes* 101 tracks?? Sounds like this has to be one insanely epic album!

I love those games too! Metal Gear especially. I consider Metal Gear Solid 3 one of the best games I've ever played, even if it's getting a little dated now.

Thanks a million for the reviews!

MGS3 is awesome! (I should get back to playing that sometime. I just don't know when auugh XD) It's a favorite among the PlayStation titles I own, along with another MGS one, VR Missions.

You're welcome for the reviews. You do really amazing creations, among others who do some epic scale tracks. :D

I don't think I've played VR missions! I have played Metal Gear Solid though. In fact I've played all Metal Gear Solid games apart from any obscure ones, and MGS4 (because no PS3 :c).

To me, Metal Gear does everything right. The gameplay is genuinely challenging and deep, the story is gripping, the characters are deep, and as if that's not enough, there are Easter eggs scattered ALL OVER every single Metal Gear game. I'm learning new stuff about MGS3 everyday. For example, if you start the boss fight against The End, and wait for a few weeks IRL (forgot how long), when you come back to the game you'll find that you won the boss fight since he died of old age. Crazy!

Anyway, I'll try and keep my Metal Gear fangushing to a minimum :3. Thanks once again for your support, it's appreciated!

Tropical Freeze.... I'll have to find that track and listen to it sometime because I don't really remember it. I can imagine it would take quite a while to get the underwater theme right (because it's so pretty, and of course the lots of editing to be done on it). I think the effort could be worth it though. I don't believe I'm worthy to do a remix on that myself just yet! I know I haven't grown enough as a musician to pull it off, but I know you could put your own unique, original spin to it! I won't push any further than that, honest.

VR Missions is a PlayStation 1 game. It's something I pick up once in a while and play. There may not be much of a story, but I still find it fun.

I know what you mean on the plot and characters being deep. I also love the comedy that goes into the games too. And you know what? I haven't played MGS3 to find out about those Easter eggs!

What you've described reminds me of a PS2 game I have called Drakengard. There's loads of weapons to find, and there are about 5 different endings to this game! And the story itself is sooo dark! No matter what path you take, the main protagonist's sister still kills herself. (There's just no saving her, nor saving the world, not ever. There's one final boss battle in which his sister becomes this tough monster, after the incredibly deranged/evilly brainwashed boyfriend attempted to resurrect her...)

I've seen only three of the endings. That's quite a lot into a game, and I'm not even close to discovering it all. Is it challenging? In some ways, yes, it certainly is. I like Drakengard quite a lot though, no matter how dark the story and characters are. I won't spoil it further. You'll have to look up the rest to know more. :P

It's okay to fan gush. I don't mind, haha! I can be quite passionate over games too, and not just video games but board games too. XD

Tropical Freeze is the latest installment to the DK series, on the Wii U! I was talking about a game in that review response, not a track :p.

I thought VR Missions seemed like an interesting game, but I ended up not bothering with it because of the lack of story which is one thing I really like in a Metal Gear game. So VR missions basically take the training mode from MGS1 and make a game out of it?

I think I've heard of Drakengard before. I've never played it though.

Holy crap. As a huge fan of VG music, I could not be happier with something like this. And its free?!? HOLY CRAP YES! I mean, i'd definitely pay money for something like this, but i'll most definitely take it free too! And god damn, 101 tracks? Thats insane! Insanely awesome that is! I cant wait to listen to each and every one of em! Thanks for the heads up!

Woo, I'm glad you find it interesting! It's a really fantastic album and, being a huge fan of VG music too, I'm incredibly happy to be a part of it. The same person behind this album also directed two other albums - Harmony of a Hunter and its expansion, Harmony of a Hunter: 101% Run. Those are both Metroid albums, so if you're into Metroid they're definitely worth a look as well.

Sorry i'm a little late in responding, but thank you for all the kind words! It was a pleasure to put this together and to work with so many talented musicians, especially those on Newgrounds! It's an album that I will always be very proud of putting together and I am thankful so many people wanted to be a part of it.
